What You Need:
- Several sheets of 8 ½” x 11” white paper
- Two 6” x 9” inch pieces of cardboard
- Pencil
- Marker
- 3 binder rings
- Hole punch
- Decorations: magazine cut-outs, stickers, beads, scrapbook paper cut-outs, all with designs related to sleep, dreams, or nighttime
- Liquid glue
- Help your students decide how many pages they want inside their dream journal, a notebook for recording and analyzing her dreams. If they want ten sheets of paper in the journal, get five pieces of the white paper to fold in half. If they want 12 journal pages, get six pieces, etc.
- Prepare two pieces of cardboard for each child, about 6” x 9” each. These will be the front and back covers for their journals.
- Use a hole punch to put three holes in the front cover. Line up the folded white sheets under the front cover and make three hole punches in those sheets to match the holes in the cover. Hole punch the back cover in a similar way so that it lines up with everything else.
- Students can use the three binder rings to attach everything (front cover, inside pages and back cover).
- Now comes the fun part: decorating the journal! Students can use glue to attach magazine cut-outs, cardboard shapes, beads, or scrapbook paper cut-outs with sleep, nighttime or dream designs. Students can also attach stickers to both covers. Have them write “My Dream Journal” in pencil on the cover. After they are happy with the lettering placement, they can darken the letters with a marker.
- Students can use the journal to record their dreams and what they thinks the dreams mean. Dream big!
